I had the same conversation with my kids -- age 6 & 9 -- on Saturday, and blogged about it here: http://tinyurl.com/y4vuzfs And like you, I credit John Raible's post as the catalyst for doing what I knew in my head needed to be done. I hope more adoptive parents will take the bull by the horns as you have!

You're welcome. I congratulate you on taking the plunge and addressing the news story head-on with your kid. I wish more parents were as daring as you.

This is one area I am glad my kids are old enough to be blunt with (the youngest is almost twelve). I am in the habit of telling them the latest news at breakfast or in the car on the way to school, mainly things they need to think about, like "I heard that some kids sent naked pictures to each other on their phones and now they are charged with the crime of child pornography," and "A 13-year-old arranged bride in Yemen died from sexual activity because she's too young." In the adoption case, they know how weird this is and what I think of it.

I shouldn't imagine Omegadotter having any doubts as to your commitment, but I know kids' minds can go to strange places when you least expect it.

Thanks for the links to other posts!
