How about some fine old Folk tunes - Burl Ives; Peter, Paul & Mary; Pete Seegar; Etc. Etc. they all recorded lots of songs other than the ones for the ankle biter/knee banger crowd. Songs like Joe Hill, john Henry, If I Had A Hammer. You should know many of them from your childhood.
And there's always the Beatles.

Okay well I really hate to say this but my 8 year old still loves Hannah Montana

That being said, she also loves alot of the Beatles and Abba!

I like your list and that is a good idea - you have me thinking!

Also in the classics corner, how about 'The Sorceror's Apprentice' by Dukas (she can watch Disney's Fantasia too as it's the music for Mickey Mouse's, um, sorceror's apprentice bit).

Or Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. That's great for kids, especially if she likes the ballet.

Or even one of my faves, Dvorak's Symphony No 9, the New World symphony. The music paints such vivid pictures of American Indians (are we still allowed to call them that? or is it First Nations now?) running through forests, and the spirituals sung by the African slaves, and just the general sweeping grandeur of American landscapes.

In the classics corner, there are the obvious ones --

Carnival of the Animals
Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra
Peter & the Wolf

Should I get one or two of these for Xmas?
