Boy, that old saying "When it rains it pours" is really true, isn't it? I'm really sorry you've had so much to deal with. And I know the worry of having a sick/aging parent so far away. I worry every day about my Mom and when something happens, it just magnifies that worry. I'm so glad your Mom is doing better.

A couple years ago, our cat developed a very bad infection in his leg, after a bite that we thought had healed. We did the same back and forth that you did. We ended up spending around $1200, which several people told us was ridiculous. But my kids love him like crazy and truth be told, I do too. How could we not?? That's crazy about the chew toy! Dogs will eat anything, lol.

First, I hope your mum is on the mend ASAP.
Second, the dog thing happened to us two years ago and Jackson had an op that cost many £100. They found a piece of rubber toy that HAD to have been there two years. They didn't believe me but it's true. I watch him like a hawk because he'll eat anything. He was poorly for a while but made a complete and ravenous recovery. I wish the same for your dawg.

Wow, Really sorry about your mom. So hope all is better soon. But she's pretty strong and feisty so she'll recover well if anyone can. And also sorry to here about your dog's troubles. Having had several pets suddenly turn into money pits I know how it feels and for me each time it turned into no matter what the cost. I had a wolf-dog with a $1,000 leg and now a cat with a $1,000 replumbing, a $1,000 kidney infection and now turned hyperthyroid with permanent medication. Will I ever learn? Probably not. So join the club, you'll sleep better.

Hoping your mom and dog feel better very soon! That's a bunch of trauma for you, too. Take care of you, too.

Dogs are really good at hiding things and then forgetting about them. Only to find them later and cause all kinds of trouble.

4 years later, I'm still paying off Macalester, Little Macalester, and Laddie's vet bills. I feel your pain. Hang in there.

Holy shit Kate. That is a lot for one person to have on their plate. I'm sorry that all of this came down in a torrent. When it rains, it pours.

You and your mom will be in my thoughts. WHACK! That's for the nurse.

I always wondered if a vet would let a pet die if it needed surgery to save its life and the family couldn't afford it. Just wondering.

How is Omegadotter taking all of this? How is OmegaDad?

Wow...do I get your pain and stress.
I'm so sorry about your Mom and your dog. I'm also sorry that you're not able to see her for yourself (my Brother's in Maine and he's always on the tail end of info)

Hopefully they are both better soon. I think PCU is the cardiac step down from the ICU - which is better than the regular floors for care.

Hugs and prayers for your Mom, you've been so supportive of all the junk we've been going through :)
