[...] OmegaMom, a fellow anonymous blogger, wrote in support, saying: I’ve been anonymously blogging for about three and a half years now. I was anonymous on boards and listservs before that. Oh, not anonymous anonymous–anyone who really wants to figure out who I am and where I live can probably do it. Part of it has been a general sense of “there are some Real Whackos out there, so it’s a good idea to keep the whackdom at arm’s length”, and since I started blogging the main reason for the anonymity is so that the dotter won’t find her name spread far and wide on the ‘net when she starts googling it. (Also so her friends and enemies in high school won’t find same and start the taunting circuitry a-jangling.) [...]

Thank you for posting on this, Omegamom. I too am a Mudflat reader and I too am a mom who blogs anonymously. I've just posted my own brush with this issue at http://themorechild.com/2009/03/28/akmuckraker-in-solidarity/

I've been reading the reactions from around the web since I first learned of AKM's outing. It's deeply saddened me.

Yours is one of the very best. Thanks.

With a frothing nut at the wheel of state, noted for her revengeful tactics at any slight, I would be very afraid to come out of the closet. There's too many nut cases out there for anyone to unnecessarily expose themselves to their ire. The amount of actual damage they can do is truly horrendous. Their sticks can rapidly ratchet up to real boulders.

And this is why I fuzz some details and facts about my life.

Anonymous is good enough as long as we're all singing from the same hymn. But the moment someone sings (writes) something that isn't on the program, then Anonymous isn't good enough any more.

That being said, I've had stupid and nasty comments left as Anonymous - and wish they would stand up to be counted.

Is it okay to be an anonymous blogger and hate anonymous comments?

Is it okay to be an anonymous blogger?

Hell yeah, it's my blog!

I blog anonymously for the same reasons you listed. And I'm fairly certain Mark Felt would disagree with Doogan. Felt might not have written anything down, but Watergate happened because Felt said what he wanted standing behind the name Deep Throat.
