i never expected him to work miracles. but the mere fact that he is not bush, that he can pronounce nuclear and that i can watch him on tv and listen to him on the radio without cringing is a big plus to me. and when he actually admitted to making a mistake...of screwing up...well i for one was impressed.

I felt the same way as you about Obama. I voted for him, but I was concerned about the deification that was happening. People expected him to work miracles and that's just not going to happen.

Honestly, I don't know what to think about the stimulus package because I'm not knowledgeable enough about finance to feel really comfortable with my own asessment.

But I know that pleasing the masses is DAMNED difficult. So the fact that he managed to put together a package at all, is encouraging to me.

He's new at this. I'm going to reserve judgement until he's had more than five minutes to find his feet.

I never expected him to work miracles, so I guess maybe people like you and I are ahead of the game there.

I agree, with one caveat. Watch for the exit strategy here. Nationalization with an exit strategy is a lot like bankruptcy (a good thing, I think), but nationalization without a credible exit strategy might well lead to 'zombie banks,' and the Japanese outcome.

It is a good sign that they are asking for private capital, and sending in more inspectors.

Ditto what you just said (or wrote). Keeping my fingers crossed that he is crazy like a fox.

Regarding the stimulus package I've read and heard that (besides people getting the two, SOT-stimulus, confused and certain politico naysayers using this to their advantage) most economists feel it is (just) okay and not enough money. I'll know in a year since I work in a field that may reap some benefits.

So much fascinating analysis coming out about the U.S. banking system, wall street, etc. in general.
