Okay, so 2009 is not starting out quite right…

posted in Holidays and Festivals, Wah, Weather |

It’s 25 below zero here.

Our furnace isn’t working.

The temperature in the house is ever-so-slowly dropping.  Downstairs, it is 60F, upstairs it is a bit warmer.  I figure we’re dropping a degree or two an hour.

Bahahaha!  “Happy New Year!” indeed.

Luckily, at least one plumber is at work on New Year’s Day.  (The others, even though they advertise 24-hour emergency service in the phone book, are apparently sleeping off hangovers.)  He’s getting his truck warmed up and will be on his way soon.

Oh, dear!!! I am shivering, just thinking about your situation! 1) I hope he can sort out the problems & get them fixed pronto. 2) Hope your chickens are OK, 3) Hope you have a handy electric heater or two somewhere and 4) hope there is room at the inn nearby. Keep me up to date, please!!!

Yowza! That sucks Kate. I hope he is over soon and you can post back that you’re happily toasting your toes in front of the heat vent. I’m with GrannyJ on all her points and the “Keep me up to date, please!!!” especially.

Nothing worse than the furnace going out on a frigid night. Good luck with the plumber.

So sorry to hear about that, but good for you it wasn’t the “all” fix!

We had to completely replace the furnace/remove asbestos wrapping in early December. We were without heat for 3 days in 17 degrees and it was very pricy. Our furnace was original to the house (85 years!) so sad it had to be replaced on our watch.

But the new one is very efficient/effective thank goodness.

But being without heat is never a good thing in the winter. I can’t imagine how 25 below feels and NEVER want to try!

Hopefully you’re warm and toasty tonight!

There is obviously a lot to know about this. I think you made some good points in Features also.
