Anyone have any experience with one of Jane Brown’s adoption workshops?

Hi - I get out of lurk-mode for this. We have gone two years in a row, when my daughter was 5 and 6.

I can definitely say, without hesitation, that if you have the opportunity to hear Jane Brown speak, take it! Her stories are great and she’ll make you think like nobody’s business. While I did like listening to her, it was not without my own questioning. Her discussion was definitely thought-provoking - which is why there’s the love/hate relationship with Jane. (But I would only have seen her once - the second time was pretty close to the first.)

My kid was good at both events and was exhausted thoroughly at the end. We definitely wondered if we opened a can of worms - both with attachment issues and with our sensitivity levels. But for the opportunity for her to be in a room with all ethnicities and ages of adopted kids (including adults) was great and it gave us both the proper language for discussion points. It’s a great, yet harrowing jumping off point.

Check out this synopsis, as it is pretty close to what will happen.

I’ve gone. I blogged about it pretty extensively on The Singing Bird, and I’ll try to dig that up from where I archived it for you. But I’ll just say, I loved it. (We went pre-Emme.)
