Writing style can be deceiving

posted in OmegaMom, Pop Culture, Writing the Blog |

So Dr. FreeRide, over at Adventures in Ethics and Science, posted about The Typealyzer, which purports to take the URL of your blog and tell you what “type” (as in Myers-Briggs type) your blog is.

Let’s just gloss over the question of whether a piece of writing can have a Myers-Briggs type.  Ahem.

Anyway, here’s what The Typealyzer had to say about Omegamom.com:

ESTP - The Doers

The active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities.
The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.

My response?  Bahahahaha!  OMG.  I must use a totally different area of my brain when writing than when, say, living my life.  Every single time I take a Myers-Briggs assessment, I end up being typed as an INTP.  Every once in a while, since the dotter has entered my life, I type as an INFP.  (Oh, well, at least I got the TP out of it…)  This is so far off from my own personality type that it’s like night and day, or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

If you have a blog, you must run it through this little black box, and come back to tell me what “type” your blog is, and whether it is as far off from your “type” as this one is for me.  I’ve just gotta know!

My blog came up as ESFP - I normally test INFP or ENFP (I am very strongly NFP, but right in the middle on I/E). Maybe the very act of blogging lends itself to ES for some reason? WEIRD.

I have never been tested so don’t know what I would ordinarily turn out to be, but I think it got me pretty well. Apparently I’m an ESFP and bearing in mind that in previous existences I’ve been a singer & sax player on stage and an archaeology lecturer and now make & sell jewellery at craft fairs, I thihk it’s pretty close…

I like it! I’m “The Mechanics”. Don’t be jealous.

I’m the same as you, on Meyers-Briggs — usually an INTP, sometimes an INFP. On the Typealyzer, I got ESFP, “The Performers”. Hahahah. Nice find.

    ESFP, “The Performers”- pretty accurate

ESFP- the Performers. Which is so not me. But it is how I write because that is my internal personality, not my external one.

So, I ran all three blogs through, just for kicks:

On my current YKWYAW blog, I’m The Mechanics.

On the SingingBird Blog, I’m The Performers.

And on my Outspeak (poetry) blog, it tells me it’s in Thai, and their frame only supports English and Swedish right now.

    Hmmmph.

I came up an ESFP…which is so spot-on that it’s funny!

    Hi!
I test as INTP most of the time, with an ocassional INFP thrown in for good measure. My OldBlog is apparently INTP. My Newblog is apparently ESTP. Maybe there is something about INTPs blog that lends itself to expressing their ES sides… Or maybe the typealyzer is stuff and nonsense and has a random algorithm in it.

Mine came up as ESFP — “The Performer” — which isn’t terribly off but doesn’t really fit either. My whole life I was always an INFP or ENFP, although lately I’ve tested as an INFJ (the rarest type apparently).

It also said my blog was an ESFP, “The Performer.” I found that strange, since every time I’ve taken the Myers-Briggs online, I’ve always come up as INFJ. When I was younger, I was an ENFJ, so I guess the only thing that’s changed about me is that now I enjoy my solitude, when I can find it. :)

Mine came up as ISTP — The Mechanics. Spot on with the avoiding inter-personal conflicts but very far off with the notion that I enjoy adventures or risk ;-)
