It is a lot of work... an awful lot of work, says the gal who raised a tap dancing daughter. But, if it's any consolation I took gymnastics at her age and I credit that sport for teaching me lots of good things such as appreciating and working hard to keep a strong, fit body now that I'm really, really old. :)

at least it's not horses...with me it was horses. no parent ever wants that expense! and mine paid about nothing because i rode other peoples horses (READ HEATBREAK) or i did not get to ride. that was really no fun. i rode until i was in my 30's and i wish i had never stopped but life goes on. let her do what she wants and you guys can get behind. it's no fun to be good at something your parents won't support at all.

Hey look! It's me! :)

I realized that I never said a "proper" hello yesterday on what I *think* might be my first comment on your blog... I've been reading you for awhile now, but just had to break out from my reader and comment yesterday! So - HI!

Also, as a postscript to my long comment - my injury/injuries were in large part the impetus for me to go to medical school and become a doctor. So, for every cloud there is a silver lining and all of that... I am sure that whatever you and your dotter do decide to do, both of you will learn a lot along the way, and things will turn out well, however twisty the path might be.

If Johnny is being Johnny, does this mean he needs to get dreads like Manny has?
(reference for those not baseball inclinded, do a google on Manny being Manny)

To be honest? I would let her do it and also let her know that if she ever gets tired with it she can take a break OR STOP. That this is all her choice.

My girls are crazy. S wants to play violin AND be a hockey player. I doubt that she will become either Wayne Gretzky or Iztak Perlman. But if she wants to try and she likes it, why not? L wants to be a figure skater. Okay...not my cuppa joe, but hey, why not?

The biggest thing is to make it clear to dotter that this is her choice and she can stop at anytime and you will still be proud of her.

I'll be interested to see how you like it. :) My daughter does karate, and there is a "team" (demonstration group) that has to work harder, practice more frequently, and travel. At this point, I can tell her that she's just not ready for it, but I'm sure there will come a time when she will be ready and wanting to join that group.

If she decides she wants to do it, and her teacher okays it, I'm sure we'll do it. But, like you, I'd rather be reading. (And have you tried reading with a bunch of kids yelling? Totally not happening. ;)
