I'm a grad student with ADD. I'm NOT saying M has that. But I know what it's like to have work you don't want to do, and to be distracted from it at every opportunity.

Try homework in small doses. A page here and there, lots of little rewards. Don't try to sit her down with a whole packet--it'll just be torture for both of you.

The goal: her understanding that she has to do it, and finding her own rhythm to get it done.

I can do amazing things when I focus, too. Sustaining that comes with lots and lots of practice. Teeny tiny steps, to start with.

Good luck!

Let me preface this by saying, I am in no way implying that OmegaDotter has a disorder.

I am always amazed at how well my boys can do certain things when they are focused. For them, unfortunately, focus is a very real problem. And it can be very frustrating when I know they can do something and do it well, but are handicapped by lack of focus.

As you know, my boys are medicated. For us it has meant the difference between night and day.

But at six, I'd say that being a flibbertigibbit is par for the course. And really, when else in life CAN one be a flibbertigibbit, if not at six???
