UGH! I am firmly opposed to this sort of pushing little girls to be grown up before they should be. I mean, you know me and how much I dig fashion, but I am quite strict with what I will allow Apples to indulge in for the sake of "beauty."

BTW, I had the same idea about a visit to the Clinique counter at age 13-ish to learn proper makeup technique. My mom did it for me, and I think it's a totally appropriate way to go.

No, no, no. This is all wrong, and you are not old. There is definitely too much emphasis on appearance, as well as a sense of being entitled to luxuries. It distresses me to no end.

I'm totally an old far with a semi-hippy outlook with you and am currently happy that my daughter can hardly be bothered to brush her hair most days. She has asked to dye her hair (purple or blue), but I'm thinking that's not so much about "beauty" as it is her own style. The NYT article really struck me. Also the Hannah Montanta makeovers? What??!!!!
