This happened to us! Last year I almost had a heart attack receiving the same notice. We had a positive experience getting it cleared up as well.

This year I will not use that placeholder LOL. I'm sure you won't either!

I had that problem with Gothgrrl the first year she was here. But it was a real problem. See, the SS office had refused to give her our last name until the adoption was final, and she didn't HAVE another last name. So she was in the SS filesw with only one name. No problem, til the IRS got hold of it. It was a nightmare trying to straighten it out!

I've found that if you ever get to a live human when calling the IRS, they're much more reasonable and easier to deal with than any other customer(no)service department anywhere else.

Glad you got it resolved.

I don't even know my kids' social security numbers. I have their cards in a file upstairs, but I never use them. Because we were victims of identity fraud years ago, I decline to put their social security numbers on forms, unless absolutely essential, such as in the case of tax returns.

For that reason, I could absolutely see myself doing something like that. I'm glad you got it straightened out quickly. What a nightmare that could have been!
