Much as been learned about he long-term problems of LASIK. Unfortunately this information is not being shared with prospective patients. Many surgeons have already abandoned LASIK due to problems with dry eye and risk of ectasia. Read www.lasikcomplications.com before considering this risky, irreversible surgery.

i had lasik in 2001. actually being able to see the clock at night from my bed....wow. it is still thrilling. i can't understand why anyone would go thru all the contact stuff when they have lasik. though i guess everyone has their own time table for these things.

My story is very similar to yours. I was unable to walk across a room without my glasses before my LASIK. After the surgery, it took me three months to stop reaching for my glasses on the nightstand every morning -- it was that ingrained! But ooooh, it was the best thing I ever did. Ever, ever, ever. Perfect vision without even thinking about it is a beautiful thing. I forget for months at a time that I wasn't born this way.

I don't think I'd know how to get out of bed in the morning without putting on my glasses. My daughter is going for Lasik, but I'm sticking to my spectacles. They've become a security blanket.

Oh yeah. I immediately dismissed RK as an option as well, especially after I read reports of patients' eyeballs sectioning like oranges when pressure was applied to them. Ick.

I hear ya on the glasses. My vision was even worse than yours. Even with the featherweight lenses they make these days, my glasses were ridiculously heavy. And expensive.

I've been under orthokeratology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthokeratology) since 1989. According to the doctor, my proscription hadn't changed since then. I wear them 4 days out of the week and can see fine without the lenses once they are taken off. However, now I've lost my nearsight and it's screwing with my longsight. And, it's become harder and harder to wear the lenses. Thus, I'm looking strongly into LASIK.
