It's moments like that you'll remember all your life. Maybe she won't, but you will! My youngest finished kindergarten convinced that the whole point of the year was to learn how to color inside the lines -and she failed that, even. See, that's the way it's supposed to work -- kids are much more receptive to learning something when it's their idea (much like toilet training). And I just want them to love reading too. But recording the minutes and pages...so clinical. How do you measure a summer afternoon spent lost in a book, traveling to places you never imagined? Good for dotter! Once she loves it, she will far outstrip the expectations. My first grader sits down and reads and reads and there is not enough space in his journal to fill in the books!
