Juliette--Welcome! Yes, not having family nearby can be both lonely and problematic. I'm glad you got a chance to have a child-free weekend!

Mamasan--We also left very special princess toothpaste. And it certainly was HOT, ugh!

Jane--Welcome to you, also! I'm glad you found your way here! Joy and angst--that's what it was, all mixed up into one great big ball.

Theresa--Were your parents moving? I know you've been having a lot of stuff going on with them. Borrowing the niece was a great idea! Yes, I can see the end in sight, and having that glimpse of relief-to-come is wonderful...though the dotter and I will be flying to AK; hubby has the dawg to himself for the car trip. We will be spending two weeks with GrannyJ, with no urgent tasks other than testing out the cat valium, which is purported to act on cats like Benadryl works on kids: 50% chance of it working perfectly, 50% chance of it sending the cats into hyper-orbit!

Sounds like you are getting into the groove of packing. It is so good when it starts to be fun. Personally I am still having nightmares that I need to be cleaning my parents' house. At one point I borrowed my niece-dd's BFF (most of the time) and set up a pool in my parents' back yard and then had to lay down the law about how many times they could knock on the back door for cheese curls and popsicles.

Now I just need to get my groove back to clean our house which is a pit with all the boxes piled up.

When you get to Alaska you should definitely find a way to have an overnight without OD. We decided this year we would try to get away overnight for each of our birthdays so we could get away twice a year.

It makes such a difference.

Best wishes with all the remaining tasks you have to accomplish. You will feel such relief your car trip will seem like a vacation-OK maybe for the first day;)

Actually, she was very good most of the time & I enjoyed the visit. I wouldn't have been nearly as worn out if we hadn't had the H*E*A*T!!! Of course Something had to be left behind -- the toothbrush, this time.

I am glad for you. We just so need it!
We lived the same 2 weeks ago: my parents visited us from France for 3 weeks and I told them, ok, 2nd weekend we're off, you have her just for you! I felt guilty when we left but Maëlle had a blast and we did too. Was the first time since we came back from China.
Like you'll be in Alaska, we have no family here in Canada, so it's not easy to have more than an evening free. But working on it. Maybe I should try your way...
Hope everything goes smooth for the move.
