New Server

posted in Uncategorized |

Woohoo!  I get an email today saying that my hosting company, “after careful consideration and monitoring of stats”, is upgrading the server OmegaMom.com is hosted on.

I think that SiteGround is Da Bomb.  I didn’t even complain to them about that week that things were acting funky, because things always kept coming back up fairly quickly, but apparently they noticed (I’m sure it happened to other people).

(And it’s pretty nifty keeno that I get three months’ service for every person who signs up with them with a referral from me!)

OK, tell us how easy setup would be for someone much less geeky, uh, I mean computer-savvy than you are.

D–Thanks! Everyone has complimented me on it, and it does match how I feel these days.

Miss C.–Well. Hm. I found it extremely easy, once I figured out how to do it. Once you get your account, you log on…then you log onto your CPanel. Then you go to Fantastico. Then you click on “WordPress”. Blammo! You now have WordPress! Then you have to set up some accounts…and then you click on the “Import” button. And BLAMMO! Your stuff is imported. I thought you had your own domain and server hosting?

    I tagged you…it’s a meme, but more than a meme. It’s part of a greater good. I hope that’s okay. :)

I have my own domain, but I use Squarespace hosting. They are great for support, and rather easy for a non-geek, but if you get a lot of traffic, it tends to become expensive. Extra bandwidth charges out of the blue occassionally.

Miss C.–Well, you’re going to get the extra bandwidth charges with spikes (or at least, *YOU* are…I don’t get anywhere near that kind of traffic!). The basic account comes with a monthly bandwidth of 5000 GB of traffic. If you think you’re going to get more, you should investigate their pricier services…because if you exceed your bandwidth on the basic account, they (ack!) suspend it for the remainder of the month. This month, I had 605 MB bandwidth; I’m sure you get much more, ma’am!

Julie–I saw! I’ll stew about it for a bit, try to do it today or tomorrow!
