Tippecanoe and Omegas too

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale, the tale of a fateful trip, that started from this mountain port, aboard this tiny ship…

The mate was a mighty sailin’ man:

The skipper brave and sure:

One passenger set sail that day, for a three-hour tour:

So it was fun. The Dotter got cold and wet:

And, since it’s August now and the yellow flower season has begun, we saw sunflowers:

All in all, a good day. OmegaDotter loved it. The three hours was just long enough for a 4.5 year old. We split it into two, with a lunch break on the shore (which is why she got cold and wet). I had to drive to the Dam Lake Country Store for munchies…when I got there, the nice old coot sitting outside walked in with me and allowed as to how the power was out and the power company was having kittens repairing all the downed lines from the storms the day/night before. So I cruised around, got all the munchies and stuff, marched up to the counter and placed the munchies there…

And stopped.

A V-8 moment, for sure: No power means no credit card or debit card usage. Duh.

Luckily, I had OmegaDad’s wallet with me, and there was some cash.

But, boy, was that ever a blonde moment!

The Betsy, being a flat-bottomed canoe, is very tippy. The Dotter needs to learn how to balance herself in the middle of the boat, rather than spend all her time leaning on one side or the other, as shown above. But tippiness aside, OmegaDad and I soon got her under control and went skittering across the water easy-peasy. The Betsy glides like a dream.

Now, a little yoga and a little Pilates-style core work, and my back should be as good as new and ready to go again.

Bitchin’ back

As a result of the Betsy’s maiden voyage, I have a lower back ache that isn’t going away, merely getting worse and worse.

Mommies and MommyBlogging are in the news.

For the moment, I’ll pass on this article, in which a lady in Britain admits that she’s bored by her kids.

And the article about the backlash

Then there’s the I Hate MommyBloggers post, about being bored by MommyBloggers at the BlogHer conference, which is related to the previous article. Apparently, this raised a bit of a ruckus at BlogHer.

Some discussion, agreement, and backlash on that, here, here, here and here.

Then, a male take on BlogHer, which author Dave Winer ended up changing because of the kerfuffle about him daring to come right out and say that it was nice to flirt with good-looking women who like to blog.

Which leads to some posts about the staying power of blog posts due to RSS feeds, internet archives, etc.

Goodness. It’s all a-roil and a-boil.

We have Yet More Visitors coming up the hill this evening, so I’ll be back on Friday to pass on more pearls of wisdom.
