Great post!

It's tricky to get your ideas out there, while trying to think in advance about who your opinions might inadvertently offend, so you can address as you go... it's much easier in person when you can see someone's reaction and clarify BEFORE they are in a huff.

Also, on the internet you might be talking to a thousand people and in real life, your audience is rarely that big, so it's easier to know how to temper your thoughts so as to be ... well... to be thoughtful, I guess!

Well, all I have to say on this one is this:

When it comes to maintaining Internet relationships, I think that "the whole truth" should be avoided at all costs.

People seem to want to be "truthier" on the Internet and that this "truthiness" is justified because isn't the truth the moral highground?

However, as in real life, a little "tempered truth" goes a long way, and tactfulness will get you everywhere. It's very difficult to backtrack any relationship from humiliation, no matter the golden high truth that was told.

Ummm...uhhhh...yeah. That. I actually think you hit the mark better than the British fellow. In my dealings, I try to be less like a bull and more like a cat in a china shop. Or maybe it's more like, I try to be more hybrid teeny car and less buslike. But I'm probably fooling myself.

Yawp. One the one hand, there's a good case for anonymity, because who wants to be followed home? BUT the problem with anonymity is that people think they can get away with more when they are anonymous, or at least physically removed from their target. It takes civilized and mature people to balance those things.
